Job/Department Summary:

Under general supervision, the incumbent will perform a variety of administrative and support tasks associated with University Housing custodial operations including: plan, coordinate, supervise and evaluate the work of custodians, ensure training and instruction to custodians in the proper use of equipment, material, safety, and accepted custodial techniques; schedule and assign non-routine projects; make inspections and maintain safety standard; report faulty equipment and needed repairs; evaluate custodial equipment, procedures and techniques and recommend changes and improvements; monitor the use of supplies and materials and coordinate all ordering as needed; assist in preparing the custodial budget; assist in problem-solving and make recommendations; maintain daily records on absenteeism; perform quarterly inspections and perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

Requirements include the equivalent to a four-year college degree in business administration and minimum of two years in facilities management and/or construction trades.
OR
Six years of experience in an increasingly responsible role in the administrative area of facilities management. Must have a minimum of two years experience directly supervising staff.

Preferences:

Preference may be given to applicants with the following as they may be considered specialized skills: 

  • Bilingual
  •  
    Supervisorial experience in a Collective Bargaining environment.
  • More than five years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience conducting in-service training, which includes cleaning standards, floor care, carpet cleaning, safety, and biohazard training, including blood borne pathogen cleaning standards.
  • Evaluating various cleaning materials and methods and determining which are best for various custodial/janitorial needs; and estimating needed quantities of materials.

Time Base: Full-time- 1.0

Pay Plan: 12/12

Work Schedule: Mon-Fri 8:00am-5:00pm, Summer - Mon-Thurs 7:00-5:30. 

CSU Classification Salary Range:  $47,256 - $140,436 per year. (Admin I)

Anticipated Hiring Range:  Not expected to exceed $70,000 per year.  Salary commensurate with education and experience of the individual selected.

The duties of this position will include participation in a decision that may have a material/financial benefit to the incumbent. Therefore, this is a “designated position” under the California State University’s Conflict of Interest Code and the incumbent will be required to file a Form 700: Statement of Economic Interest and is subject to the regulations of the Fair Political Practices Commission. (Group/Category: Procurement Card Holder, 2) Note this designation is applicable only if Procurement Card is issued.

Throughout employment in this position incumbent must maintain a valid California Driver's License as well as continued completion and compliance of the CSU Defensive Driver's Training course.

This position is a Higher Education Employer-Employee Relations Act (HEERA) designated managerial position and comes under the Management Personnel Plan (MPP) of the California State University. Individuals appointed to management positions serve at the pleasure of the President or designee. They are excluded from the collective bargaining process, are not subject to probationary service, and do not receive tenure or permanent status. This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
