Job Summary

Under the direction of the Director of the Bickerstaff Academic Center (BAC); and the Assistant Director of Academic Support the incumbent assists with providing academic support clerical assistance, clerical support for BAC programs, and general reception duties for the BAC. During the academic semesters (fall and spring) workday hours will be adjusted to meet the operational needs of the Center between the hours of 9am to 9pm Monday through Thursday.


Key Responsibilities

  • Academic Support Assistance - Assist the Assistant Director for Academic Support with professional execution of all aspects of tracking and maintaining BAC and University databases for student-athlete academic support services. Assist with coordination of the tutoring program. Communicate relevant Information regarding the academic support programs to interested parties (coaches, advisors, tutors, mentors, etc.).
  • Front desk receptionist support assistance and maintain academically enriching study environment for CSULB’s NCAA student-athlete population - Provide general reception and clerical support for the front desk and study hall. Maintain the reception and study hall area of the center including but not limited to the opening and/or closing of the Center doors, greeting student-athletes, coaches and visitors, monitoring printer paper, and keeping the area clutter free.
  • Provide clerical assistance for the BAC operational needs - Assist BAC staff with DocuSign creation. Provide clerical support for student-athlete programming including Academic Skills workshops and orientation programming; including but not limited to preparation of handouts and documents for the program, send communication emails to coaches and student-athletes, create flyers, organize attendance sheets, request room locations.
  • Required NCAA Compliance - Maintain working knowledge and comply with all NCAA compliance, Big West Conference, Athletic Department and CSULB rules and regulations that apply to working with the NCAA student-athlete population.

Compensation

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

  • Hiring Rate: The hiring rate for this position is $4,047 (Step 1) per month.
  • CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $4,047 (Step 1) - $5,896 (Step 20) per month.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The ideal candidate demonstrates excellent word processing and Excel skills to prepare manuals and other documents, along with strong communication and interpersonal abilities. They are highly organized, capable of multitasking, and adaptable in a dynamic environment. A professional demeanor is consistently maintained when working with faculty, staff, and students. The candidate is also experienced in engaging with a diverse university population, including student athletes, and can effectively build and maintain cooperative working relationships with CSULB staff and students. Additionally, they are comfortable working within a high-profile, at-risk, and culturally diverse population.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.  Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures.  Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."


Education and Experience

• Equivalent to four years of administrative support experience required.

• Knowledge of general NCAA rules, student-athletes issues and academic complexity is preferred.

Physical Summary

Sedentary work - Involves mainly sitting. Walking and standing are minimal. Lifting is limited to lightweight objects (10 pounds or less).
